Biography: Yakuza is an American avant-garde metal band formed in Chicago, Illinois, the United States in 1999. The current band members are Jim Staffel (drums, percussion, keyboard), Matt McClelland (guitar, vocals), Bruce Lamont (saxophone, clarinet, vocals, effects) and Ivan Cruz (bass guitar). Yakuza differs from all others bands by their indescribable sound, which features numerous influences, like for example from jazz, worldbeat and from post-rock ambience. They cite as their influences such bands like King Crimson, Napalm Death and Tortoise. The band has released four studio albums. The first album Amount to Nothing was independently released in 2001. Right now, the band is signed to Prosthetic Records. Under this label, they have released two albums – Samsara (2006) and Transmutations (2007).
