American alternative rock and pop punk band Weezer from Los Angeles, California, was formed in 1992. The band comprises Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner and Patrick Wilson. The band's first gig was opening for Keanu Reeves' band Dogstar. The band has listed several influences, among them KISS (with direct references in the song, "In the Garage"), Cheap Trick, Nirvana (who was their labelmate for a very brief time before Kurt Cobain's death), and Pixies (especially early on in their career). They quickly gained popularity in 1994 with their debut album, Weezer, also known as The Blue Album. The album spawned the popular singles "Undone - The Sweater Song" and "Buddy Holly". Following the multi-platinum success of their debut album, the band took a break from touring for the Christmas holidays. And in 1996, they released their second album, Pinkerton.
