Biography: The Velvet Underground was an American rock band formed in 1964 in New York City, New York, the United States. The band was active during the decades and its best-known members were Lou Reed and John Cale who found a success as solo artists after the split of the band. Other former members of the group are Sterling Morrison, Angus MacLise, Maureen Tucker, Doug Yule, Walter Powers and Willie Alexander. Andy Warhol became the band’s manager in 1965 and suggested to feature German-born singer Nico. The debut album was titled the Velvet Underground & Nico. The album’s cover is famous for Warhol design – a yellow banana with “Peel Slowly and see” printed near by. Those who removed a banana skin found a pink, peeled banana.
