American indie folk and folk rock singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens was born on July 1, 1975, in Detroit, Michigan, United States. He began his musical career as a member of Marzuki, a folk-rock band from Holland, Michigan. He also played (and continues to play) various instruments for Danielson Famile. Sufjan Stevens gained popularity in 2005 with his successful album, Illinois, which reached number one on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart, and which you may download in mp3 from our site. The album spawned the hit "Chicago". His next album, The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois Album, was released in 2006. It debuted at #71 on the Billboard Top 200, making it the highest charting Sufjan Stevens release to date. At the same year, he released Songs for Christmas, which produced Christmas-related songs. Songs for Christmas was generally well-received by music critics.
