Biography: Soundgarden was an American rock band from Seattle, Washington, the United States in 1984. The band was founded by lead singer and drummer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Later the band was joined by the permanent drummer Matt Cameron and permanent bassist Ben Shepherd which replaced Yamamoto. The band achieved the first popularity in 1991 with their album Badmotorfinger which was certified 2 x Platinum in the US and Platinum in Canada. The follow up album has become the best-selling one to date in the band’s history. The album Superunknown debuted at number one of the Billboard charts and became 5 x Platinum in the US and 3 x Platinum in Canada. It earned two Grammy awards for the band.
