The Smiths were an English alternative rock band that was formed in 1982, in Manchester, England. The band consisted of Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce. Critics have called them one of the most important alternative rock bands to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s, and the group has had major influence on subsequent artists. The Smiths quickly gained popularity in 1984 with their self-titled debut album, The Smiths, which you may download in mp3 from our site. It produced the band's first hit single, "What Difference Does It Make?". The album was well received by the critics as well as the public. In 1989, the album was ranked number 22 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 greatest albums of the 1980s.
