Silverchair is an Australian alternative rock band formed in 1992 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. The band currently comprises Daniel Johns (vocals, guitar), Chris Joannou (bass guitar) and Ben Gilles (drums). During its career, the band has released five studio albums, two live albums, two compilation albums and 22 singles. The debut band’s album Frogstomp was released in 1995 under Sony Music Records. The album has become the best-selling one to date. It reached number one on Australian charts, on US Top Heatseekers chart and charted in the UK and Canada. The album peaked at number 9 on the Billboard 200. The total worldwide sales are more than seven and a half million copies. The album yielded the hit singles “Tomorrow” and “Pure massacre”.
