Run-D.M.C. was an American hip hop and rap rock band formed Hollis, Queens, New York, the United States in 1983. The band was founded by Joseph "DJ Run" Simmons, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, and Jason "Jam-Master Jay" Mizell. The band was one of the main acts throughout the 1980s and became one of the most influential hip hop bands. They are also considered to be the forerunners of placing hip hop into the mainstream music. The Rolling Stone magazine ranked them number 48 in its list of the greatest musical artists of all time. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame being the second hip hop group to be inducted. The band released four consecutive Platinum albums and their 1986 album Rising Hell was certified 3 x Platinum being the best-selling album.
