Puerto Rican pop, latin pop and contemporary R&B singer and actor Ricky Martin (birth name Enrique Martín Morales) was born on December 24, 1971, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He rose to fame as a member of the Latin American boy band Menudo after which he became a solo artist in 1990. He is considered to be a major star in the world of Latin Pop and is considered to have opened the doors for some of his fellow Latin American singers. In 1999, he released his biggest hit, "Livin' la Vida Loca", which received various Grammy nominations and helped Martin to obtain enormous success inside the United States and worldwide. "Livin la Vida Loca" also was his first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The video received six nominations at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards, for Video Of The Year, Best Male Video, Best Pop Video, Best Dance Video, Best Choreography in a Video and Viewers Choice.
