Rachael Yamagata is an American singer-songwriter born on September 23, 1977 in Arlington, Virginia, the United States. Yamagata began her career in Chicago-based funk-fusion band Bumpus. She spent six years with the band and after writing some songs, which didn’t fit Bumpus repertoire, she decided to launch a solo career. She released her debut album Happenstance in June 2004. Many of her songs featured TV shows like Charmed, How I Met Your Mother, ER , Nip/Tuck, Men in Trees, Alias, One Tree Hill etc. Her second album Elephants...Teeth Sinking Into Heart came out in 2008. During her career, she toured with Mandy Moore, appeared on Jason Mraz’s and Rhett Miller’s solo albums, collaborated with Ryan Adams, Chris Holmes and Ben Arthur.
