Queens of the Stone Age (also known as QOTSA) is an American rock band formed in Palm Desert, California, the United States in 1997. The band members are Josh Homme (lead vocals and guitar), Troy Van Leeuwen (second guitarist), Joey Castillo (drums), Dean Fertita (keyboards and back vocalist) and Michael Shuman (bassist). The band has been nominated for Grammy Awards for four times but failed to win any. All four nominations are in the category “Best hard Rock Performance”. The band has released five studio albums. The breakthrough to the mainstream success happened in 2002 with a release of their album titled Songs for the Deaf. The album got the Gold status in the U.S. and in UK and became Platinum in Canada.
