British rock and punk rock band The Pretenders from Hereford, England, was formed in 1978. The band comprises songwriter Chrissie Hynde (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), James Honeyman-Scott (lead guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), Pete Farndon (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Martin Chambers (drums, backing vocals, percussion). In 1978, they signed to Real Records. And after that, they produced their debut song "The Phone Call", which quickly gained critical attention. Later, the band achieved mainstream success with their breakthrough single, "Stop Your Sobbing", which became a huge hit in the UK. Their debut self-titled album was released in 1980 and yielded the singles, "Private Life" and "Brass in Pocket".
