Biography: American Christian rock and progressive rock band Petra from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was formed in 1972. The band comprised Bob Hartman, John Schlitt, Greg Bailey and Paul Simmons. The late 80's and the early 90's was a successful period for the band, when it was considered the best-known, best-selling Christian band. With their music and style, the band influenced other Christian artists at times when Christian rock was considered "inadequate" by many. For more than three decades the band showed stability (in musical quality and output, at least, though few consecutive albums contained the same line-up) despite changes in genre, and released 24 albums, selling nearly 10 million copies. In 1990, Petra released their twelfth album, Beyond Belief, which you may download in mp3 from our site. As of 2006, this is the band's most successful album both critically and commercially, and it is considered by most to be the peak of their discography. The album won the band their first Grammy and was certified gold.
