American saxophonist Paul Winter was born August 31, 1939, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, USA. When he was a child, he often dreamed about career of musician. After leaving school, he entered the college at Northwestern University. As a student, he formed the Paul Winter Sextet band in 1960. In 1961, this band won the Intercollegiate Jazz Festival and was quickly signed by Columbia Records. All the next year, they toured Latin America and were playing nearly 160 concerts in 23 various countries. The Paul Winter Sextet became also the first jazz band, which performed at the White House. After the tour, he went to Brazil and his interest in Brazilian music led to the release of the solo album, Rio (1965). In 1978, he released one of his most successful albums, Common Ground, which yielded several singles such as "Lay Down Your Burden", "Wolf Eyes", "Duet", "Midnight" and "Trilogy".
