American R&B and soul singer-songwriter and actress Patti LaBelle (birth name Patricia Louise Holte) was born on May 24, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He became popular in the mid-1960 as a lead singer and founder of all female soul band Labelle. This group is best known for a collection of the hit singles such as "Lady Marmalade", "I Sold My Heart to the Junkman", "Down the Aisle (The Wedding Song)" and "You'll Never Walk Alone". She achieved mainstream success as a solo singer in 1986 with her breakthrough album, Winner in You, which produced two hit singles, "Oh, People" and "On My Own" (featuring Michael McDonald).
