American heavy metal band Pantera was formed in Arlington, Texas, the US, in 1981. The founder members were Abbott brothers Vinnie Paul (drums) and “Dimebag” Darrell (guitar). The band was called at first Diamond Darrell. The band split in 2003 and the final line-up consisted of Vinnie Paul (drums, percussion), Dimebag Darrell (lead guitar, backing vocals, occasionally live lead vocals and bass guitar), Rex Brown (bass, backing vocals, occasionally live lead guitar), Phil Anselmo (lead vocals, occasionally live rhythm guitar). The band released nine studio albums. The breakthrough album was released in 1990 when the group was signed by the major label. Some critics state that “there was no greater metal band during the early to mid-1990s than Pantera."
