Missy Elliott, birth name Melissa Arnette Elliott, was born on July 1, 1971 in Portsmouth, Virginia, the United States. She’s an American recording artist in genres hip hop and R&B, she’s also singer-songwriter, record producer and actress. Elliot is the only female rapper having six albums certified platinum by RIAA though none of them reached the top spot of the charts. Her best-selling album is an album Under Construction released in 2002. It was certified 2 x Platinum and reached 2,2 million sales. The album spawned a hit single number one “Work it” which reached the top of Rap and R&B charts. Other hit singles were Gossip Folks (feat. Ludacris) and Back in the Day (feat. Jay-Z and Tweet).
