Merle Haggard, birth name Merle Ronald Haggard is an American country music singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and guitarist, born on April 6, 1937 in Bakersfield, California, the United States. Haggard had an unhappy childhood. His father died when he was nine years old and this made him to rebel by committing crimes. He was sent in prison several times. Eventually he released in 1960 and governor Ronal Reagan pardoned him in 1972. He began his music career after his fourth release. He saw Lefty Frizzell performing with his friend. Frizzell auditioned Haggard and allowed him to sing at the concert and thus he began a full-time music career. During his long career he has released 76 studio albums and 38 singles number one including "I'm a Lonesome Fugitive", "Branded Man", "Okie From Muskogee" and many others.
