Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, United States. The band was formed in 1964 by Ronnie Van Zant (vocals), Allen Collins (guitar) and by Garry Rossington (guitar) under the name “The Noble Five”. Later they changed the name for My Backyard and One Percent but eventually stopped on Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band achieved the worldwide popularity with release of their second album Second Helping which spawned the hit single Sweet Home Alabama. Later the band’s popularity grew up much more and during one of the rock festivals in the UK they performed even better than Rolling Stones. This breakthrough happened in 1976 but the tragic event, an airplane crash, happened in 1977 led to the finish of the band’s activity. Some of band members died including Ronnie Van Zant.
