Leela James is an American soul, R&B and funk singer-songwriter born on June 2, 1983 in Los Angeles, California. James was influenced by such singers like Roberta Flack, James Brown, Mavis Staples, Stevie Wonder and others. Her voice resembles Chaka Khan’s, Tina Turner’s and Aretha Franklin’s. She released her debut album A Change is Gonna Come in 2005. The album leads us back to 1960s and 1970s music legacy, however it incorporates the elements of contemporary R&B, funk and gospel. The title track is a classic by Sam Cooke. The album spawned such singles like "Music", "Don't Speak" (No Doubt cover), "Good Time" and "My Joy". She opened for Black Eyed Peas and Macy Gray.
