Maria Ligaya Carmen Imutan Salonga, better known as Lea Salonga is a Filipina singer and actress born on February 22, 1971 in the Philippines. She began her music career, being a child when she was seven years old. Salonga debuted as a singer in the musical The King and I. She achieved her breakthrough at the age of 17 when she successfully auditioned for the role in the musical Miss Saigon. Salonga performed in the UK and when the musical moved to Broadway, she performed there as well. She continued acting on the stages of Broadway starring in Les Miserables. The role in the Miss Saigon earned her many international awards like Olivier, Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics, and Theatre World Awards. She has performed for many high officials, including five Philippine presidents, three American Presidents, for Diana, Princess of Wales and for Queen Elizabeth II.
