American alternative rock and pop punk band Jimmy Eat World from Mesa, Arizona, was formed in 1993. The band comprises Jim Adkins (lead vocals, guitar), Tom Linton (guitar, backing vocals), Rick Burch (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Zach Lind (drums, percussion). In its early years, the band emulated the style of its punk-rock influences, with Linton serving as their primary singer. Within the span of a couple of years, the band recorded and released three singles and a full-length on local label Wooden Blue Records. They achieved mainstream success in 2001 with their breakthrough album, Bleed American, which was certified Platinum by the RIAA. The album also yielded four singles, "Bleed American", "The Middle", "Sweetness" and "A Praise Chorus". The album was produced by Mark Trombino, who previously produced Blink-182's first major-label album, Dude Ranch.
