James Brown, birth name James Joseph Brown Jr., (May 3, 1933 Barnwell, South Carolina, United States– December 25, 2006 Atlanta, Georgia) was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, bandleader and record producer. He made a great impact on the music industry has was one of the most influential figures in the 20th century popular music. During his career he got such titles as “Godfather of Soul” and “the hardest working man in show business”. He was working in such genres as gospel, rhythm and blues and funk. In 2004 The Rolling Stone magazine put him at number seven in the list of the Greatest rock and roll musicians.
