Jacques Romain Georges Brel, better known as Jacques Brel was a Belgian singer-songwriter born on 8 April 1929, in Schaarbeek, Belgium and died on October 9, 1978 in Bobigny, France. He has become one of the most popular Francophone artist and songwriter around the world. Many other famous artists covered his songs including David Bowie, Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Alex Harvey, and many others. Brel sold about 25 million copies around the world including 12 million in France and Belgium. He was very popular in France as most of his life he spent in Paris. He rose to fame thanks to his tours and became more popular as he starred in films and musicals. He was a film director as well – his films are Franz (1971) and Le Far West (1973).
