Biography: The Indigo Girls are an American folk rock duo formed in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States in 1985. The duo consists of Amy Ray and of Emily Sailers. During their career they released twelve studio albums, three live albums and four compilations. Girls were signed by the major label Epic Records in 1988. Their major label debut was titled Indigo Girls and reached number 22 on the album chart. The album spawned their first hit single “Closer to Fire” and earned them a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album and nomination in the category of Best New Artist.
