Gustav Theodore Holst better known as Gustav Holst was an English composer, born on September 21, 1874 in Cheltenham, England and died on May 25, 1934 in London, England. Holst was born in a musical family – his father was organist and mother was pianist. Since his childhood, he was surrounded by music and he showed his interest to music very early. During his youth, Holst was an organist in a church and conducted the church choir. Later he was studying how to play piano, trombone and organ in London Music College. He was playing trombone in different orchestras for several years. He began his teaching career in 1903. Moreover, in 1907 he became a head of the Morley College in London. He was very fond of ancient Indian culture and it inspired him to write operas “Sita” and “Mahabharata”. However, his most famous and popular work is “The Planets”.
