Biography: Herbert George Wells was an English author and journalist born on September 21, 1866 in Bromley, England and died on August 13, 1946 in London, England. He and Jules Verne are considered fathers of science fiction genre. Wells was born in the family of a former gardener, shopkeeper and cricketer and his mother was a former domestic servant. Wells was married twice. His first wife was his cousin Isabel Mary Wells and his second wife was Amy Catherine Robbins. They had two sons George Philip and Frank Richard. Wells had affairs with many women and had two illegitimate children. He wrote non-fiction and fiction. His early works are considered to be classics of science fiction – The Time Machine, The Island of Doctor Moreau, The Invisible Man, The War of the Worlds.
