Grandaddy is an American indie rock group formed in Modesto, California, the United States in 1992. The band was founded by singer/guitarist/keyboardist Jason Lytle, bassist Kevin Garcia, and drummer Aaron Burtch. Tim Dryden on keyboards and Jim Fairchild on guitar joined the band in 1995. Grandaddy broke up in 2006. During that career, the band wasn’t signed for quite a long time, thus they self-released four albums. The debut studio album Under the Western Freeway came out in 1997 (V2 Records). The band couldn’t reach any significant success and none of their albums or singles charted. Some of their singles included “Nature Anthem”, “The Crystal Lake”, "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot". During its career, the band opened for Elliott Smith on his Figure 8 tour.
