Gotan Project are a musical group based in Paris, France. The group was founded in 1999 and it composes of three members - Philippe Cohen Solal (French), Eduardo Makaroff (Argentine), and Christoph H. Müller (Swiss). They play music of different genres including tango, electronica, nu jazz, dub, trip-hop and Nuevo tango. The band’s name is a play on words that is widespread among Arab and African youth in France when they swap the syllables in the word. “Gotan” comes from “tango” and the whole name was derived from famous tango compilation “Tango project” released in the USA in 1982. The first group’s album La Revancha del Tango was released in 2001. Some of the group’s songs were used in films like Shall We Dance? (with Jennifer Lopez and Richard Gere) and "Ocean's Twelve".
