Gorillaz is a virtual band formed by Damon Albarn of Blur and by comic book creator Jamie Hewlett who drew the band. The project was started in Essex, England in 1998. The virtual band composes of animated characters 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel. Their music can be described as alternative rock with influences of hip hop, pop, trip hop, britpop etc. The project itself is a collaboration of many different musicians with Damon Albarn being the only one permanent contributor. The band entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful virtual band. Their smashing hits are Feel Good Inc., Dare, Dirty Harry, Kids with Guns/El Mañana, Clint Eastwood.
