Canadian folk, country and rock singer and songwriter Gordon Lightfoot was born on November 17, 1938, in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. He is best known for a collection of hit singles such as "If You Could Read My Mind" (1970), "Sundown" (1974), "Carefree Highway" (1974), "Rainy Day People" (1975), and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (1976). In 1974, he released one of his most successful albums, Sundown, which reached number 1 on the pop chart, the first and only of the band's albums to achieve this. The lead single, "Sundown", reached number one on the pop and adult contemporary charts and number 13 on the country chart.
