American soul and contemporary R&B singer-songwriter Goapele (birth name Goapele Mohlabane) was born on July 11, 1977, in Oakland, California, United States. Her music is heavily influenced by various worldwide popular artists such as Stevie Wonder, Etta James, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, Portishead, Prince, Caiphus Semenya, Zulu Spears and Hugh Masekela among others. In 2001, she released her debut album called Closer, which received good reviews from critics and brought a deal with several record labels (Skyblaze, Columbia, SME Records) to her. During her career, she collaborated with various artists such as Aceyalone, E-40, Zion-I, Clyde Carson and Mos Def. In 2005, she released her second album, Change It All, which spawned her most popular singles such as "Change It All", "First Love", "Love Me Right" and "4am".
