Biography: Gentle Giant was a British progressive experimental rock band formed in 1970 in the UK. The band was founded by Shulman brothers – Phil, Derek and Ray. The trio was joined by other musicians – Gary Green, Kerry Minnear and Martin Smith. The band’s notable features were that all members were multi-instrumentalists, there were three lead vocalists and band’s music was very complicated. The music was composed by Kerry Minnear and Ray Shulman, while lyrics were by Phil Shulman and Derek Shulman. The band hasn’t achieved the mainstream success as their counterparts Yes, Genesis and Emerson, but they were the most experimental band on the progressive rock scene. For example, the band used musical structured typical for classical music and used instruments, which are not associated with rock (violin, mandolin, xylophone, cello and others). The band broke up in 1980. The last their album was Civilian. You can download this album by Gentle Giant in mp3 from our site.
