Funkadelic was an Afro-American band active from 1970 till 1981. The group was formed in Plainfield, New Jersey by George Clinton. Originally, it was formed much earlier but didn’t have the name. At the beginning, in 1964, George Clinton decided to form a backing group for his doo wop group the Parliaments while they were on tour. The original line-up composed of Frankie Boyce, Richard Boyce, and Langston Booth and the Parliament members on vocals. As Funkadelic they were signed in 1968. The band’s style can be classified as funk, soul, psychedelic soul and psychedelic rock. The group was highly influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone and later they added elements of disco and electronic music to their sound. The most commercially successful band’s album was One Nation Under a Groove. The album was certified Platinum and reached the top of the American R&B chart.
