American jazz, blues, folk and gospel singer and musician Eva Cassidy (February 2, 1963 – November 2, 1996) was born in Maryland, United States. When she was only 11, she started playing guitar and joined the Washington-based band, Easy Street. When she was a student, she joined the band called Stonehenge, which performed in local clubs. During this time, she caught the attention of the managers from Liaison record label. After the deal with Liaison, she began recording her debut album. The Other Side was released in the early 1990s. This album brought her a contract with well-known Blix Street record label. She achieved mainstream success in 1998 with her compilation album, Songbird, which contained the singles, "Over the Rainbow", "People Get Ready", "Songbird", "Wayfaring Stranger", "Autumn Leaves" and "Wade in the Water".
