Erica Abi Wright better known as Erykah Badu is an African-American soul singer and songwriter. She was born on February 26, 1971 in Dallas, Texas, the United States. She is best known for her role in the rise of neo-soul that’s why she’s often called “Queen of Neo” and “First Lady of Neo-Soul”. She released her debut album Buduizm in 1997 and quickly gained the popularity. The album was certified 3 x Platinum and it remains her best-selling album to date. The album yielded a hit single number one “On & On” and other less popular singles “Next Lifetime”, “Otherside of the Game” and “Apple Tree”. Her next studio album Mama’s Gun became also very popular spawning one more number one single “Bag Lady”. She reached the top spot of the charts one more time with a soundtrack song “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip Hop)” (featuring Common).
