Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford, Hertfordshire, England in 1968. The band’s current line-up consists of Ian Gillan (vocals, harmonica, congas), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums, percussion), Steve Morse (guitar) and of Don Airey (keyboards, piano, synthesizer). Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, the band is considered to be one of the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock though they incorporated other elements in their music like classical, blues-rock, pop and progressive rock. The band has sold more than 100 million copies all around the world and was ranked #22 on the VH1 list Greatest Artists of hard Rock. The band has released 18 studio albums and produced many hits like Black Night, Smoke on the Water, Strange Kind of Woman and many others.
