Biography: American filmmaker and visual artist David Lynch was born on January 20, 1946, in Missoula, Montana, U.S. Intending to become an artist, he attended classes at Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. while finishing high school in Alexandria, Virginia. He enrolled in the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for one year (where he was a roommate of Peter Wolf) before leaving for Europe with his friend and fellow artist Jack Fisk, planning to study with Austrian expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka. Although he had planned to stay for three years, Lynch returned to the US after only 15 days. He has expressed his admiration for filmmakers Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman, Stanley Kubrick and Jacques Tati, writer Franz Kafka and artist Francis Bacon.
