Irish folk, traditional Irish and pop singer-songwriter Christy Moore (birth name Christopher Andrew Moore) was born on 7 May, 1945, in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland. He is also well known as one of the founding members of Planxty. He was originally a bank employee who wanted to express himself using traditional music. A bank strike in 1970, which lasted six months, resulted in Moore spending considerable time practising music. When the strike ended, he had already decided where his passion in life arose, and left the bank for good. He rose to fame with the album, The Iron Behind the Velvet, which featured his brother Barry Moore (Luka Bloom) on Guitar & Vocals as well as Planxty's Andy Irvine on Mandolin, Bouzouki, Vocals & more.
