Apocalyptica is a Finnish metal band from Helsinki, Finland formed in 1993. The band is famous for their metal played on cellos, thus they have created a new subgenre called cello-metal. Most of the band members are classical trained cellists. The current band members are Eicca Toppinen (cello), Paavo Lötjönen (cello), Perttu Kivilaakso (cello) and Mikko Sirén (drums). Their style can be also classified as instrumental, chamber music and symphonic metal with the elements of neo-classical and gothic metal. The band have produced not only their original music but they have also covered compositions by such artists like David Bowie, Metallica, Rammstein, Edvard Grieg, Sepultura and some others. The band have released six studio albums and 12 singles charting in their native Finland, Austria, France and the US. Their last album is titled Worlds Collide.
