Biography: Amon Amarth is a Swedish melodic death Viking metal band formed in Tumba, Sweden in 1988. The band was founded under the name Scum and began as grindcore. After the band had been joined by Johan Hegg they departed from their previous sound and moved to melodic death metal. The current band’s line-up composes of Johan Hegg (vocals), Johan Söderberg (guitar), Olavi Mikkonen (guitar), Ted Lundström (bass guitar) and Fredrik Andersson (drums). The band’s name means “Doom Mountain” in Sindarin, Elvish language created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Most of the band’s lyrics are based on the pre-Christian beliefs, on Norse mythology and on Viking Age.
