Spanish classical musician and tenor Alfredo Kraus (24 September 1927 – 10 September 1999) was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands of Spain. At the age of four, he began playing the piano and at the age of eight, he sang in the school choir. In the mid-1950, he made his debut in Cairo as the Duke in Rigoletto, which also became one of his most successful roles. In the late 1950s, he made his debut in Covent Garden as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor. A year later, he performed in La Scala as Elvino in La Sonnambula. Later, he produced a numerous of French operas such as La jolie fille de Perth and Les pêcheurs de perles. He also participated in several well known works including Don Giovanni, Tales of Hoffman and Faust.
